Obituary for John Max McKee

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body. I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Galatians 2:20

John Max McKee, a resident of Zachary, LA and a native of Louisville, MS, died on Monday, October 10, 2016 at his home. He was retired, after working as the owner of Western Auto of Zachary, LA for over 27 years. Visitation will be at the First Baptist Church of Zachary on Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 10am until funeral services at 12 noon, conducted by Dr. Wayne Barnes. There will be a graveside service on Friday, October 14, 2016 at the Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, MS at 12noon. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carolyn T. McKee; one daughter, Ann McKee Calhoun and her husband Kent Calhoun of McKinney, TX; two grandsons, John Kent Calhoun and Cameron Thomas Calhoun; and his sister, Alice Henderson of Jackson, MS; sister-in-law Mary Louise McKee of Orange, TX; brother- and sister-in-law Lonnie and Pattie Thompson of Gainesville, FL; and various nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his caregiver and friend, Alisa Claiborne. He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde Vernon McKee Sr. and Wanda O’Daniel McKee; step-mother Ruth Porter McKee; and brother Clyde Vernon McKee Jr. Pallbearers will be Kent Calhoun, John Kent Calhoun, Cameron Calhoun, Mark Jarrell, Scott Mankins, Nelson Mock, Hubie Owen and Paul Owen. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Brythel Brantly, Jack Brooks, Danny Davis, Charlie Massey, Greg McDougall, Dan Pipkin, Louis Sparkman, and Ed Wagner. John McKee was a man of faith in Jesus Christ and a good man. He was a proud Eagle Scout. He served in the US Marines in WWII, was a graduate of Mississippi State, and was a Rotarian. He was a member and lifetime deacon of the First Baptist Church of Zachary. Also, chairman of the Benevolence Committee, and a faithful participant in prayer breakfast and Sunday School. The family wishes to give special thanks to Alisa Claiborne, Thelma Irvin and Mary Starks of Dunbar’s Home Care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the First Baptist Church of Zachary.
