Obituary for Lila Sanders Behrnes
Lila Sanders Behrnes passed away on December 15, 2014 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital at the age of 97. Born December 1, 1918, she lived her childhood years in Pride, LA and her adult years, as a wife and mother, in the Slaughter Community. Lila is survived by her son and daughter-in-law R.L. and Rosemary Behrnes of Slaughter, her daughter, Flora Lee McIntyre of Zachary, two granddaughters, Carnie Frizell and Lee Ann Albert. She is also survived by four great-granddaughters, Amber Rabuck, Meagan Fabre, Mallory Albert, and Morgan Albert and four great, great grandchildren, Garrett Fabre and Noah, Avery, and Owen Rabuck. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maggie and Robert Sanders and her husband Louis “Nook” Behrnes. Lila (Maw Lila) loved to cook. She was always happy to prepare food for her friends and family. She helped people celebrate happy events or she would comfort them in times of trouble by preparing special food for them. She will be remembered for her delicious cakes and candy that she made all year, especially at Christmas time. She was a generous and gracious lady. Visitation will be held at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 9am until funeral services at 11am, conducted by the Reverend Dale Phillips. Burial will be at Redwood Cemetery on Hwy. 412 in Slaughter. Pallbearers will be James Frizell, Jon Rabuck, Ben Fabre, Howard Sanders, Robert Rector and Charles Albert. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at St. Clare Manor for the excellent care given to Lila for the past six years.
