Obituary for Nettie Norwood Reed

Nettie Norwood  Reed
Nettie Adele Norwood Reed “Tat”, a resident of Norwood, LA, died on Saturday, October 11, 2014. Visitation will be at the Norwood Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 from 6pm until 8pm and then on Thursday, October 16, 2014 from 10am until 12noonfuneral service, conducted by Rev. Ted Roeling and Dr. Ed Carver. Immediately following the service, burial will be in Norwood Cemetery. She was born in 1921 at the Belle Haven Plantation in Norwood, LA, where her father was also born. She was a member and an Elder in the Norwood Presbyterian Church. She was the daughter of Nettie Annie Hagaman Norwood and Frank Lewis Norwood. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lester Danial Reed, retired Lieutenant Colonel, US Army; her brother, Frank L. Norwood, Jr; and her son Dan Reed. She is survived by two children: Ann Norwood Reed Gibson and her husband James R. Gibson; Richard Reed and his wife Deborah Reed; grandchildren Nettie Lynn Gibson Walker; Suzanne Reed Gibson Thomas and her husband Mike Thomas; Elizabeth Ann Gibson; James Randolph Gibson; Rachel Adele Reed Garber and her husband Richard Garber; Richard Jason Reed and his wife Jenny Reed; Randall Scott Reed and his wife Carey Reed; Mark Lewis Reed; Matthew Ray Reed and his wife Amy Reed; Amanda Adele Reed and her husband; Emily Ann Reed and her husband; and Rebecca Dawn Mougeot; and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was the salutatorian of Norwood High School, class of 1938 and a 1942 Graduate of LSU. She was an alumnus of Chi Omega and she was a member of the LSU Rifle Team. She was very active playing golf & tennis. After working as a teacher for 22 years for schools throughout Mississippi and Texas she retired. She was a member of the Norwood Women’s Club. She was active in the Louisiana Forestry Association, and was a co-recipient of the Louisiana Forester of the Year in 1997 and 2014. She was the first female on the Board of Directors of the Feliciana Foresters Association. She was most at home in the woods and had a love of gardening and preserving wildlife. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Tat was a fine Christian who believed in following the Word of God. She believed that right was right and wrong was wrong. She will be greatly missed. In her lifetime, she touched many families in her community with her generosity of time and spirit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Norwood Presbyterian Church. Her pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be James R. Gibson, Edward Carter, Collin Andrews, Mike Levert, Tom Manuel, Mike Thomas, and Luciano Maldonado.
