Whitcomb, Barbara Ann Gleason

Barbara passed away peacefully at her home near Clinton on October 4, 2014. She was born in Kenosha, WI on December 15, 1933. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford William Gleason and Frances Pauline Hunt Gleason, sister Joan Gleason Schwerin, brother William (Bill) Gleason and granddaughter Brittany Whitcomb. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Maurice (Whit) Whitcomb, children Larry Whitcomb (Joanna), Jim Whitcomb (Raquel), Susan Hennings (Karl), Patti Duke (Ivan) and John Whitcomb (Julie and son Andrew). Siblings James Gleason, Mary Catherine Gleason Jahnsen (Jan), Susan Gleason Norman. Grandchildren Fred, Michael and Jenna Whitcomb: Clifford, Kyle and Seth Hennings; Taylor, Phillip (Lindsey), and William Duke; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces, all who will miss her dearly.

Barbara was a US Air Force veteran who served at Hill AFB, Utah, where she met Whit. She loved their retirement home and the community near Clinton. She enjoyed bridge, reading, sewing and her favorite pastimes of gardening and bird-watching. She loved being able to wander the trails in the woods surrounding her home and observing the birds and other wildlife found there. She loved her entire extended family and also enjoyed hosting holiday dinners that included them all.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 9:30 am to 11:00am with a memorial mass following at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 14040 Greenwell Springs Road, Greenwell Springs, LA 70739. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (www.nationalmssociety.org) or St. Joseph Hopice (www.stjosephhospice.com).
