Obituary for Lucille Duck Simmons

Prentice Lucille Duck Simmons, 82, a resident of Slaughter, LA and a native of Liberty, MS, died on Monday, September 15, 2014 at Lane Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be at the Slaughter First Baptist Church on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 6pm until 8pm and then on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 12noon until funeral services at 2pm, conducted by Rev. Basil Wicker. Burial will be in Redwood Cemetery in Slaughter. She is survived by two daughters: Anna S. Gorden of Clinton, LA; Patricia S. Netterville and her husband Jeff Netterville of Fernwood, MS; one son, James N. “Jimmy” Simmons Jr. and his wife Judy of Slaughter, LA; two sisters, Evelyn Freemyer and Gloria Mathews; seven grandchildren: Shanna M. Rainwater and her husband Allen Rainwater, Jamie N. Gorden, Daniel R. Simmons, Mindy N. McGehee and her husband Scott McGehee; Andrew S. Netterville, Matthew L. Netterville, and Wesley Simmons and his wife April Simmons; four great-grandchildren: Taylor R. Rainwater, Mikayla L. Rainwater, Eli N. Gorden, and Myles Simmons. She is also survived by five step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James N. Simmons Sr.; parents Ralph and Anna Duck, and grandchild Casey Arlyn Simmons. Pallbearers will be Wesley Simmons, Andrew Netterville, Matthew Netterville, Scott McGehee, Jeff Netterville and Jamie Gorden. She worked at the nursery at Slaughter First Baptist Church and often served “Meals on Wheels” as a volunteer. The family would like to thank the Lane Nursing Home Staff for the love and care they gave her.
