Obituary for Madeline Pendergist Hemba

Madeline Pendergist Hemba, 36, a resident of East Feliciana Parish, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018. She was joined in death by her son Joseph and her brother-in-law Darrin Vince. She is survived by her loving husband Joe Hemba and daughter Rebecca; father Richard (Dickey) and wife Darlene Pendergist; mother Becky Tatum and her Aunt Renee Tatum; sister Tatum Vince; father-in-law James and Joyce Hemba; brother-in-law Jimmy and wife Robin Hemba; step-sister Dana Landry; step-brother Brandon Smith; step- brother Jason Jackson; nieces and nephews Patrick and Rachel Vince and their daughters Audrey, Emily, Riley, and Mallory Vince; Abby and Emily Hemba; Garrettt and Peyton Landry, McKenna Smith; Nanny (Pookie) and Bill Boudreaux; Aunt Vickie Pendergist; Uncle Ronnie and Aunt Jane Pendergist; Uncle Bill Tatum; Cousins Ashley Tatum, Jacob and Daniel Pendergist, Mason Pendergist, Jessica  Boudreaux, Lacey Carpenter, Lindsey Pendergist Sanders, Tommy (Tom Boy) Pendergist; Bill Cook; She was preceeded in death by her grandparents Willie and Imo Jean Tatum, Jesse Jr. and Gladys Pendergist, her 3 uncles Jesse Pendergist, III, Tommy Pendergist, and Ronnie Pendergist, Sr.

Madeline was born in Zachary, LA on September 10, 1981. She graduated from Zachary High School and continued on to receive a degree from Louisiana State University in business. Since age 18, Madeline has been a staple of the Zachary Community, working in finance and budgeting at the City Hall where she's lovingly referred to as, "The Golden Child." Madeline always brought life to every party. Whether at a crawfish boil in the backyard, on a girls trip to the beach or watching an LSU football game, her captivating smile, and infectious happiness made her a joy be around. Madeline was a social butterfly who loved to hunt, shop and have fun at the river. Her sparkling blue eyes and smile met everyone in the room. Her faith in the Lord and service for others were her best qualities. She was full of life, fun and outgoing, adored by her family, friends, coworkers and all who knew her. She was intensely loyal and kindhearted, traits she shares alongside her best friend and sister, Tatum. Above all else, she loved her husband and children with all her heart, and it is this love that will be so greatly missed.

Pallbearers are Dickey, Ronnie, Jacob, Daniel, Tommy, and Mason Pendergist, Brad Hughes, Jimmy Hemba, Honorary Pallbearers are Jimbo Cobb, Clint Gray, Ben Morris, Shawn Pratt, Ryan Varnado, Joe Amorello, Josh O'Neal, and Jason Jackson.

The visitation will be held from 10am-2pm on Friday, February 2 at First Baptist Church of Zachary followed by a funeral service starting at 2pm. Her burial will take place at Star Hill Cemetery in St. Francisville.

Madeline's family would like extend their gratitude to the Zachary Fire Department, Mississippi Wildlife and Fisheries, Eastside Fire Department Dive Team, and West Feliciana Sheriff's Department

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Madeline's honor to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or to a bank account that has been set up at Bank of Zachary in the name Eastside Fire Department Dive Team towards dive equipment: Bank of Zachary, PO Box 497, Zachary, LA 70791. Make checks to “Eastside Fire Dept. Dive Team”, in memo write “Benefit Fund.”
