Obituary for Betty Jo LeDoux Charlet

Betty Jo Ledoux Charlet, “Mammaw” to her family, a resident of Clinton, LA, died on Friday, August 22, 2014. She was 89 years old. Born in 1925, she grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana. She married George “Buddy” Charlet Sr. in 1943. In 1947, they moved to Clinton, LA and founded Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in partnership with Charles A. “CA” Charlet Jr. Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. has proudly served her community for three generations.

Visitation will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Clinton on Monday, August 25, 2014 from 5pm until 8pm. On Tuesday, August 26, 2014 visitation will be at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Clinton from 9am until an 11am Funeral Mass, conducted by Fr. M. Jeffery Bayhi. There will be a 9am singing of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy rosary. At 10:30 am there will be a eulogy, delivered by her grandson, George Joseph “GJ” Charlet III. Following the Mass there will a burial in Masonic Cemetery in Clinton, which was always one of Mammaw’s favorite places to spend time.

She is survived by one son: Donald J. “Pete” Charlet and his wife Connie Charlet of Zachary; two daughters: Linda Jean Charlet Ulbrich and her husband Ronald J. Ulbrich of Hondo, TX; and Patricia Charlet Dart and her husband Bill Dart of Clinton, LA; widowed daughter-in-law Miriam Joy “Sue” Stelly Charlet of Clinton; loving former daughter-in-law Dolores “Dodie” Charlet of Zachary; fifteen grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and countless “adopted” children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Joseph Charlet Sr. and her son, George Joseph Charlet Jr.

Her grandsons will serve as her pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be her sons-in-law Bill Dart and Ronald J. Ulbrich. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
